Foundations of sUAS Operations for Inspection & Assessment
ASTI-TEEX-CO-CERT-UAV-INS-205 | Industrial Drone Inspection and Aerial Assessment Training

This TEEX-accredited programme develops the skills and knowledge required to conduct drone-based inspection and assessment of industrial infrastructure and critical assets — from power corridors to telecom towers and construction sites.
Structured aerial inspection processes for industrial environments
Aerial evaluation techniques grounded in hazard identification
Structured collection using visual and non-visual sensor payloads
Structural and environmental threat recognition from aerial perspectives
Safety and regulatory adherence in high-risk operational environments
This programme serves professionals entering or expanding into aerial inspection roles across high-stakes industrial sectors. Whether transitioning from ground-based workflows or building on foundational drone skills, this course provides the operational depth required.
Operators entering industrial inspection roles in utilities, energy, telecom, and construction
Maintenance teams and safety officers responsible for asset integrity and field safety
Certified inspectors transitioning from traditional ground-based to aerial workflows
Public safety and engineering staff supporting infrastructure assessment operations
To ensure all participants are prepared for the operational demands of this programme, applicants must meet the following entry requirements before enrolment is confirmed.
Completion of SUAS214 or equivalent foundational sUAS course
Demonstrated stable control, spatial navigation, and emergency handling capability
Working understanding of operational safety frameworks applicable to sUAS environments
Industrial inspection environments involve high-voltage infrastructure, confined airspace, and complex hazard profiles. Baseline flight competency and safety awareness are non-negotiable for participant and public safety throughout training scenarios.
Upon successful completion, participants will demonstrate operational readiness across the full lifecycle of an industrial UAV inspection — from mission planning to data reporting and safety coordination.
Conduct compliant aerial inspections of industrial infrastructure including towers, poles, and pipelines
Identify structural, electrical, and environmental hazards from aerial vantage points
Design and execute risk-based inspection missions with defined exclusion zones and boundaries
Collect structured visual and sensor inspection data using standardized aerial protocols
Interpret inspection data and produce reports suitable for maintenance and engineering escalation
Coordinate inspections within industrial safety systems and maintain aviation regulatory compliance
The skills developed in this programme map directly to active inspection and monitoring roles across high-value industrial sectors. Graduates are prepared for immediate deployment in asset-critical environments.
Transmission line, substation, and energy infrastructure inspection
Tower structural assessment and antenna array condition monitoring
Site monitoring, progress documentation, and aerial safety auditing
Long-corridor surveillance and pipeline integrity assessment
Integrity evaluation of critical plant equipment and facility structures
This programme is designed to align with leading international standards governing UAS operations, asset management, occupational safety, and structural inspection — ensuring credentials hold operational and regulatory validity.
UAS operational governance — framework for safe and structured unmanned aircraft operations
Asset management systems — aligns inspection activities with lifecycle asset management principles
Occupational health and safety compliance — embedded in all field and flight training modules
sUAS training standards — governs training design, competency benchmarks, and assessment criteria
Utility structural inspection relevance — applicable to overhead line and tower inspection scenarios
Compliance is not a module — it is embedded throughout every operational scenario, documentation exercise, and flight training sequence in this programme. Participants graduate ready to operate within regulated industrial environments.
