Module Breakdown
Inside the Curriculum
Our comprehensive curriculum is meticulously designed to provide a deep dive into each critical aspect of convergence technologies. Each module builds upon the last, ensuring a cohesive and progressively challenging learning experience over 15 weeks.
1
Weeks 1–3: Advanced Converged Network Principles
Master the foundational frameworks underpinning today's unified digital infrastructure. Explore the OSI model and TCP/IP architecture in depth, with a focus on protocol functions, encapsulation, and practical network design. Build skills in VLAN design and trunking using 802.1Q, subnetting and network segmentation, and IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack configuration. You will also study core routing concepts including OSPF and BGP, then apply them in simulation labs using Packet Tracer and GNS3. Assessment includes a written exam and a lab practical that tests configuration, verification, and troubleshooting skills.
2
Weeks 4–6: Unified Communications Architecture
Delve into designing and evaluating systems that integrate voice, data, and collaboration platforms. Study SIP trunking and H.323 protocols alongside PBX and IP-PBX architectures, then compare deployment models for Microsoft Teams and Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM). Learn dial plan design, extension mapping, call routing logic, and the planning of high availability and failover mechanisms to support business continuity. In the lab, you will configure a unified communications environment end-to-end, from core services through endpoint connectivity. Assessment is based on an architecture design project that evaluates technical accuracy, resilience, and implementation strategy.
3
Weeks 7–9: IP-Based Voice, Data & Video Integration
Gain hands-on experience deploying and configuring IP communication services across converged networks. This module focuses on QoS policy design, including DSCP marking, traffic shaping, and policing, alongside codec selection such as G.711 and G.729. Explore multicast video delivery, IPTV fundamentals, bandwidth planning, SIP registration, and call flow analysis to understand how voice and video services behave in a shared network. Students will deploy a live VoIP and video conferencing environment in the lab, test service quality, and validate end-to-end interoperability. Assessment is based on a live system demonstration showing correct operation, quality tuning, and service validation.
4
Weeks 10–12: Network Performance & Optimisation
Apply critical performance monitoring techniques and advanced optimisation strategies to maintain network efficiency at scale. Learn to use SNMP and NetFlow for visibility, interpret dashboards in PRTG and SolarWinds, and analyse packet-level behaviour in Wireshark. The module also covers capacity planning, SLA management, load balancing strategies, and redundancy protocols such as HSRP and VRRP to improve resilience and service continuity. In the lab, you will complete a performance audit of a simulated enterprise network, identify bottlenecks, and recommend improvements based on evidence. Assessment includes a performance report with practical recommendations for optimisation and operational improvement.
5
Weeks 13–15: Troubleshooting & Interoperability
Develop robust skills in diagnosing faults and ensuring seamless compatibility across diverse multi-vendor environments. Use structured troubleshooting methodologies with an OSI-layer approach to isolate problems systematically and efficiently. Examine interoperability considerations across Cisco, Juniper, and Avaya platforms, along with common fault scenarios, escalation procedures, and documentation standards used in professional support workflows. The capstone project challenges students to diagnose and resolve a complex multi-fault network scenario, document the process clearly, and present findings to a technical audience. Assessment is based on the capstone project presentation and the quality of the resolution approach.
